The bad news: There was no AC on a muggy, summer evening.  But as the saying goes “The show must go on.”

And it did.

Nearly 60 people visited the Story Slam! space at 1401 Central Ave., Suite 103. The band Just Add Water played tunes. They enjoyed a multitude of donated libations and savories: a keg from Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, two cases of wine provided by Frank Kiker and the lovely antipasto trays provided by Catherine Connor.

Mark Woods spoke with passion about the scope of Story Slam!, which will feature new plays, music and poetry, and the desire to build a community center that nurtures creativity and discussion.

Randell Haynes provided the lay of the land on casting, scheduling and compensation.

Many thanks to those who made the night possible: Wilt & Catherine Connor, Cubby Terry, Eric Winkenwerder, Tryon Distributors.

A very special tip o’ the hat to the Glidden Paint Company for the early contribution of the paint.

And again, gratitude to John Rudolph and Herman Young for generously providing the space.
