Jacob Wick, a legend in the making?

Jacob Wick, a legend in the making?

Trumpeter Jacob Wick – one of New York’s most captivating younger voices – will visit Story Slam! on Thursday, Oct. 8, as part of his ambitious, far-reaching ROAD TRIP project.

Cover is $3 (a freakin’ steal, people). Doors open at 7 pm. Show starts at 8. No advance sales; tickets are at the door only.

Sponsored by Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization, this 3-month journey will see Wick performing solo trumpet sets, the music of John Cage, and THIS IS IT, his own text-based graphic score for any number of instrumentalists.

As he draws a loose perimeter of the United States, Wick’s trip will be punctuated by two residency stays, one at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida and the second at Heaven Gallery in Chicago.

His ongoing journey and collaborations with local musicians at all his stops will be readily documented online – photos, audio recordings, video, and blog entries from every day of the journey.

The Charlotte stop on the ROAD TRIP tour will feature 11 musicians from this city’s burgeoning, open-minded improv scene collaborating in a novel combination.

Percussion, electronics, strings, and horns will collide to interpret and breathe idiosyncratic life into Wick’s starkly skeletal THIS IS IT score.

Featuring members of Great Architect, Moenda, Yardwork, and more.

Wick’s solo set begins at 8pm. After a short break, the large ensemble will tease out the strands of THIS IS IT. This really is it……..
