On Halloween night, Oct. 31, local film guru Ross Wilbanks will host “The Magic of Melies,” a look at Georges Melies, considered the first, and best, magician of the cinema.

Many of these films will have live narration and music to recreate the spirit of how Melies wanted them to be enjoyed. Among those reading will be Lawrence Toppman (yes, THE Lawrence Toppman), Amanda Varney, Wes Varney, Hana Blumenfeld, Bob Nulf, Randell Haynes and Mark Woods.

These are shorter films! You can drop by, catch one or two and then head out to CarnEvil or whatever spooky bash you want to make.

Wilbanks sayd that Melies’ vaudeville style is so lost in cinema today that these films spring anew like a broad slap across the face.

Admission: $5 at the door (no advance sales).

Mark your calendars: Wilbanks is planning another movie night on Dec. 6!
